The
Ring O' Bells is a small pub on the right hand side as you travel through
Kirkland in Kendal.
It has two small bars.
Kirkland, is the start of the one way system when coming into
Kendal from the south. The Pub is situated on the edge of Kendal Parish
Church Car Park.
Affectionately known as The
Bells, its recent poor history of closing down and its frequent changing of
landlords has done it no favours in terms of
regulars or local drinkers. Hopefully, in the last TWO YEARS, we have
managed to start its recovery and we hope to make it a busy little pub
where people want to go.
Rumours of it shutting down
again keep bouncing around town, but it will take an Act of God to get us
out of here.... WE LOVE IT.
For many years, it has been
considered an "old mans" pub and though we have no problem with
old men (that we know of), we are trying to change the pubs image.
We want to make it more
inviting for Ladies, Families and the 30+ year olds, whilst maintaining our
existing customers.
Each bar seats around 15 to
20 people. There is fixed seating around most walls with various tables,
chairs, stools and poufs.
We also have the curious
"Snug" in which apparently many a dead body has been laid out
before being laid to rest (though the truth seems to be that they were laid
out where the toilets are now). This spooky corridor hardly adds to our
seating arrangements as many people are afraid of the room!
It could maybe seat 5 with a
further 5 standing on a busy night - in coats of course cos
its bloomin cold in
there!
It was sat in 3 times in our
first year and maybe as many as 4 times in the second!
.
Further history of the pub
can be found in the history section.
